“How To Be A Good Baker”
Baking can be a lot of fun. There are a few things you can do to take you from being a passable baker to one that will make heads turn. Skill and practice do have their place but there are a lot of things that will also really affect the final product.
Get an over thermometer. Yes turning the knob to 350 should make sure you hit that temp, but does it really? Some stoves can be off by as much as 10-15 degrees. It may not seem like much, but it will affect your baking time and could also cause other problems as well.
Get good ingredients. Real butter, good flour, good vanilla, and other ingredients will always affect your final outcome. When you use good ingredients you will have those flavors you are looking for. My grandmother never baked her cookies without real butter. There is no substitute for it. And if you are using chocolate, get the good stuff. You won’t be sorry about it!
Chemistry is the key. Baking is actually all about reactions. The recipe you use is actually the formula to your creation. Many recipes have been around for some time and you can always tweak them a bit but the core is always there. Every chocolate chip cookie has flour, sugar, brown sugar, butter, egg, and chocolate chips in some ratio in them.
